The Innovation Award for Fire Safety 2015 goes to the water pipeline sprinkler, developed by BAM Techniek – Fire Protection, SIRON Fire Protection, TU Delft, Fire Brigade Netherlands and VSH Fittings B.V .. The jury assessed the nominees on the aspects of innovation, integral fire safety and usability. “This product is unique in its kind within the Dutch market, is widely applicable, affordable and ensures an increase in safety, which is a big step forward”, according to the jury.
Two weeks earlier, the professional jury had nominated three companies that were allowed to pitch their innovation during the National Fire Safety Event 2015 in Utrecht. The winner was finally chosen through a public vote. According to the jury report, the water pipe sprinkler offers a concrete solution to a much-discussed issue and provides extra protection for, for example, older people who continue to live independently for longer.
Operation water pipe sprinkler
The water pipe sprinkler is installed in the pipes on or in the ceiling throughout the house and connected to the water supply network. As a result expensive pumps are not necessary. When a fire starts, the glass bulb breaks and the water spreads over the seat of the fire, which prolongs the flight time. Only activate the sprinklers in the fire, so that water damage is limited as much as possible. All in all, this system therefore reduces the risk of physical injury and material damage, at lower installation costs.
The jury of the Innovation Award Fire Safety 2015 consisted of Mr. Van Os from the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations, mrs. Peters from SBRCURnet, mr. Sevenstern of Marsh Risk Consulting BV and mr. Van Straalen of TNO.
The two other nominees were NATER Gas & Fluid Systems with the removable water mist unit and Hilti Nederland with the fire resistant cuff on the roll.
